A powerful storm moving from the Atlantic into Scandinavia this week has already unleashed vicious winds on Ireland and northern parts of the United Kingdom. The rest of the British Isles and neighboring parts of northern Europe will continue to feel the effects of this storm through Friday night.
Peak wind gusts have surpassed 110 kph (68 mph) over the higher terrain and along exposed coastal areas with widespread wind gusts over 80 kph (50 mph) in northern Ireland, northern Wales, northern England and Scotland.
The strong winds resulted in downed trees and power lines while also disrupting rail service, according to the BBC.
Coastal towns and roadways have also been impacted by flooding and sea foam as large swells crashed onshore.
While winds will subside across northern British Isles through late Thursday, winds will increase across England and the rest of northern Europe through Friday night.
The London area will escape the worst of the storm, but wind gusts of 80-95 kph (50-60 mph) will whip the city Thursday night.

Locally damaging winds will spread into areas from northern France to Germany and southern Scandinavia through Friday night. Cities that may be impacted by damaging winds include Paris, France; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Berlin, Germany.
Wind gusts to 110 kph (70 mph) will be on the isolated level and most likely at southwest-facing coastal communities.
Gusts of 80 kph (50 mph) will tend to be more localized in Paris and Berlin than London and Copenhagen, while gusts will be closer to 50-65 kph (30-40 mph) in Warsaw, Poland.

At this time, Accuweather.com meteorologists feel that while some power outages and downed trees are expected, structure damage will remain isolated, outside of damage from falling trees.
A secondary wave of low pressure will be responsible for the locally damaging winds as it strengthens while crossing northern Europe.
As the potent storm departs for the start of the weekend, an unsettled weather pattern will persist across northern Europe into next week with gusty winds and showers.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists will be monitoring the potential for another round of damaging winds around next Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the strongest winds these days will likely fall short of what whipped the northern British Isles this week.
