A powerful storm moving from the Atlantic into Scandinavia later this week will unleash vicious winds on the British Isles and neighboring parts of northern Europe.
The strongest winds will be found across the British Isles, especially from northern Ireland through northern Wales, northern England and Scotland. Peak wind gusts can surpass 110 kph (68 mph) over the higher terrain and along exposed coastal areas.
Winds will increase from Tuesday into Wednesday. The strongest winds will be felt from Wednesday into Wednesday night when the threat exists for downed trees and power lines along with some localized wind damage to buildings.
While the London area will escape the worst of the storm, wind gusts of 65-80 kph (40-50 mph) are possible on Thursday.
Locally damaging winds will spread into areas from northern France to Germany and southern Scandinavia on Thursday as well. Cities that may be impacted by damages winds include: Paris, France; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Berlin, Germany.
A second wave of low pressure may track from Ireland and the southern United Kingdom into northern Europe late Thursday and Friday. If this low strengthens it would produce a second round of strong winds which are more likely to produce widespread power outages.

An unsettled weather pattern will persist across northern Europe into next week with gusty winds and showers, although the threat for damaging winds will decrease after Friday.
